Taking part in collegiate athletics can be a demanding endeavor and many universities may employ staff members to tend to the well-being and needs of athletes. Individuals in New Mexico who visit university health care professionals for medical purposes may rely on these parties to take every possible measure to protect their well-being. Still, things might not always go as planned. A former North Carolina State University athlete has recently filed a lawsuit accusing the university’s sports medicine director of sex abuse.

Allegations of abuse

The former NC State soccer athlete claims that he was subjected to sexual misconduct by the other party on numerous occasions. The athlete also claims that he did not feel he was in a position to question this person’s actions and says that he was subjected to abuse at the hands of the director for over two years. Reports indicate that he eventually transferred to another university and has since decided to file a lawsuit against the university and the sports medicine director.

The lawsuit also states that a former college soccer team coach informed the university of the director’s behavior. However, the school took no further action to address the allegations until the athlete stepped forward to confront the situation. Reports indicate that an investigation into abuse claims remains underway, and the sports medicine director has been suspended.
